Loyal is pleased to present Mat Brinkman and Samara Golden in an exhibition opening June 8th.This is Mat Brinkman’s third exhibition with the gallery and Samara Golden’s first. Mat Brinkman will exhibit a group of new works including HEADS 4 – a new series of 48 ink drawings on rice paper, HEADS CORRODER – a film animation of his complete HEADS series 1-4 with sound by Brinkman, and WRITHING MASS – a new sculptural work. Samara Golden will be presenting GATEKEEPER sculpture, 17 SUICIDE MASKS, as well as a sound piece. At the opening Brinkman will also re- lease his new book HEADS COLLIDER, published by PictureBox and Le Dernier Cri.

Mat Brinkman (1973, TX) Lives and works in Colorado. Brinkman studied sculp- ture and printmaking at RISD in Providence from 1991-1996. In 1995 he co-founded the famed Fort Thunder that was active until 2001. Brinkman was also part of Force- field – the ground-breaking, four person collective who were included in the Whitney Biennial in 2002. Brinkman’s prolific output of posters, drawings, comics, music and films continue to be highly influential.

Mat Brinkman first appeared at Loyal in spring 2005 in the group exhibition Wel- come Home with Fort Thunder-era silkscreens. Brinkman returned to Loyal in 2008 in Stockholm for RV and Trailer Drawings, an exhibition of sumi ink-on-paper drawings which were shown under an acidic, glowing green light. Recent exhibitions include: Congealed: A Festival of Solo Experimental Sound and Art, curated by Chris Pot- tinger, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (2013); Phantasmatgoria, The Hole, New York (2010 solo); New York Minute, curated by Kathy Grayson, Garage Center, Moscow (2010) and MACRO Testaccio (MACRO Future), Rome (2009); Le Dernier Cri, Marseille (2008); RV and Trailer Drawings, Loyal, Stockholm (2008 solo); Panic Room - Works from The Dakis Joannou Collection, Deste Foundation, Athens (2007); Wunderground Providence-1995 to the present, RISD Museum, Providence, RI (2006).

Samara Golden (1973, MI) Lives and works in Los Angeles. Golden received her MFA from Columbia University in 2009 and her BFA from the MCAD, Minneapolis in 2003. Golden has exhibited extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Recent exhibitions include: Endless Bummer II / Still Bummin’, curated by Drew Heit- zler and Jan Tumlir, Marlborough Chelsea, New York (2013), Set Pieces, curated by Andrew Berardini and Lauren Mackler, Cardi Black Box, Milan (2013), Nevermore, On Stellar Rays, New York (2013); Bad Brains, Night Gallery at Frieze, New York (2012 solo), Rape of The Mirror, Night Gallery, Los Angeles (2011 solo). Her work has been written about in Mousse Magazine, Flash Art, Dazed and Confused, New York Times, Time Magazine, Rhizome, NY Magazine, The LA weekly, and Artforum.
